Me & Lindye had a lot of fun filming this latest episode of Suddenly Inspired. Polyvore – has become one of our new FAV sites! You can create custom collages using actual merchandise & products you find online! The Polyvore site is extremely helpful in creating inspiration boards for your wedding because each image saves the description, pricing and link from where it was found. I LOVE Danish.

And not just danish pastries! I have discovered a new style that I just can’t get enough of…Danish Modern. After getting married I have learned to embrace compromise. I love vintage decor & Troy loves all things modern – we’ve got to find a compromise somewhere :) This past week we bought a new couch (yay!) and I have been looking for some other new pieces for our house. While I was cruising around craigslist one day (yes, I know craigslist) I kept seeing furniture with sleek modern lines and a vintage feel. I thought – “what style is THAT? Oooooh I like it I like it!” After some research, I found that others out there are really digging this style. It’s hip streamline vintage. Not old bulky musty grandma. I created a little modge podge of this style below! I wish I could plan my wedding again & do a modern Danish theme! Isn’t that cake awesome!? Mmmm…cut me a slice of that!

Balboa Island Tresures.

This Saturday, my neighbor Lydia & I vowed to wake up at 6am and conquer the much anticipated Balboa Island garage sale. I went to bed early & work up bright eyed & bushy tailed. We started our morning off with a quick trip to Starbucks & some fresh baked treats from the Cinnamon Roll Fair.

Then we shopped shopped shopped! Here are a few photos of my early morning finds!

Above: three white shadow boxes ($1 each), a rustic teacup ($1), a Timeworks clock ($5), an antique soap dish ($3), a fun Spanish style tray ($4). I also found a great rug & outdoor table (not pictured). It was a very successful garage sale day!

I love the details on this antique soap dish!

When I saw this little chicken wire tea cup I thought it would be a great planter. I lined the inside of the cup with moss & potted an ivy plant inside. I love how it turned out!

Small Spaces. Painted.

When we moved into our house, the first thing Troy & I wanted to do was paint. Something about color on the walls feels more like home. We went to Home Depot, chose a few colors (off of a whim) & got to painting. Luckily, most of the colors we loved. But, as I walk by our home office on a daily basis, I second guess our avocado green paint selection. As beautiful of a color it is – it’s just not right for our small space. It feels dark & dingy. I’m not sure that Troy is so keen on re-painting – but this time I have done my research & we will do it right!

A few tips that I’ve learned about painting small spaces:

1. Use light colors to make your space feel larger, more open and airy. I am loving the soft colors below from Restoration Hardware. Especially when we live so close to the beach!

2. Consider using furniture the same color (or in the same color scheme) as your walls. This blue dresser below is a great example (featured on design sponge)

3. Keep it calm. Don’t clutter your walls, instead – highlight a focal point. I LOVE this bathroom below! So pretty!

And that’s the colorful side of things! Hopefully you haven’t made a paint color mistake like mine! Stay tuned – I’m hoping to turn it around! Restoration Hardware here I come :)

Fabric Inspiration

My neighbor Lydia turned me on to this easy wall art idea! It works great for a combination of spaces & won’t put your decorating budget over the edge! Below is a little step-by-step tutorial for you to try at home!

What you’ll need: Embroidery hoop(s) (They come in a variety of sizes & are usually under $5), fun fabric (depending on size of hoop .25 yd – 1 yd of fabric) and a pair of scissors.

Step 1: Cover inner ring with fabric. Step 2: Place outer ring on top, pulling fabric tight tight. Step 3: Tighten the outer ring. Step 4: Cut off excess fabric. (Pointer – be sure fabric is in place & tight before cutting – it is hard to adjust after!)

Here is my finished project – hanging in our family room. I love having some new fun colors & patterns.

Newport Porch Revamp

The much anticipated Sweet Tea Porch is finished! Since we moved in, Troy & I have been coveting a front porch where we can drink our morning coffee, work on our lap tops, and of course people watch. Before we were able to get started, we had to take care of some business in the front planters! Below are a few “before” pictures of our wild and crazy bushes that were in need of some serious love.

Dun dun duuun! Here is our renovated porch! What do you think of its stylin new curb appeal?

Recycled DIY

A couple of weeks ago, my sister posted one of the easiest DIY projects you’ll ever do! A great piece of fabric art that can compliment any room. I loved her choice of fabric (below) & not so perfect approach. All you need are some fabric scarps, string, an empty frame & a little inspiration.

Here is an example that one of her blog followers, Sarah Bel, sent in.

Here is my rendition below. My kitchen needed some spice, so I used one of my kitchen towels as inspiration & scrapped away!
